Beloved DJ, podcaster, producer and broadcaster ANNIE MAC has announced her departure from the BBC Radio 1 airwaves after 17 years in the biz.
Sharing the news on social media, real name Annie MacManus said she was hanging up her headphones to focus on new endeavours including writing fiction and creating podcasts, as well as spending more time with her two children.
"I also love the idea of leaving the party (and make no mistake working at radio 1 does feel like a party) with a huge smile on my face, when I'm still having the most fun I can have."
She also explained that while she is indeed leaving her Radio 1 residency, she plans to return to radio broadcasting "when the time is right".

Mac first joined the station in 2002 as a broadcast assistant before she was given her own show in 2004. She is largely regarded as one of the UK's most prominent voices on the national broadcaster, and one of music's most loved story tellers and music sharers.
Expressing thanks to the artists, BBC Radio 1 management, her colleagues and most importantly, her listeners, Mac reflected on how much her life has changed while at her post.
"And most importantly [thank you] to each and every one of you who tuned in to my shows. In my time on Radio 1, I have fallen in and out of love, moved homes, climbed up the career ladder, got married and become a mother twice over, alongside you doing your versions of the same. Thank you for allowing me into your lives. Thank you for brightening my days. Thank you thank you thank you for listening."
Annie Mac's last BBC Radio 1 show will take place on July 30th, 2021.
