Newcastle-native indie band Vacations have been honoured with their second Platinum certification in the US, hitting the prestigious milestone with their 2018 single Telephones.

It comes just under 10 months since the four-piece outfit earned their first Platinum cert back in February (at the hand of their 2015 single Young). The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed Telephones had reached its shiny new status last Friday (December 15), having shifted an equivalent one million units – accounting for online streams and digital sales – nearly six years after it was released in early 2018.

Telephones can be heard on Vacations’ debut album, Changes, which also featured the singles Moving Out and Steady. The band since released their second full-length effort, Forever In Bloom, in 2020, and will follow that up with No Place Like Home on January 12, 2024. So far they’ve previewed LP3 with four singles: Next Exit, Terms & Conditions, Midwest and Close Quarters.

Vacations confirmed their next album was ready to go back in September, after returning to the spotlight with Next Exit in April. In the interim, the band celebrated their first rotation-add on triple j.

Earlier in their career, Vacations were one of the first Australian bands to go viral on TikTok, with Young (the lead single from their 2016 EP Vibes) blowing up in the early months of 2021. The moment kickstarted the band’s international success, and Young was certified Gold – shifting half a million equivalent units – a year later.
