Building on the undoubted success of Campbelltown Arts Centre’s Conscious program, the newly announced Conscious NXT is a music industry academy catered toward young people aged 15 to 18 in south west Sydney who are looking to develop a career in hip hop, rap and R&B. Whether you want to be an artist, songwriter, producer or music industry professional, Conscious NXT aims to link developing young creatives with a team of established artists and industry professionals who will support, nurture and inspire them in their endeavours.
Developed by Campbelltown Arts Centre and Conscious Artistic Director and artist L-FRESH The LION, the Conscious NXT program will spread out its workshops and sessions from mid-March into the beginning of June.
Kicking things off with a Music Industry Sampler Event on Monday the 24th of February, open to both schools and their students and the general public, attendees can experience a taste of what Conscious has to offer, including hands-on challenges that offer a glimpse into the career pathways you can access within the music industry.
Over the next three months, the academy will kick into action, offering a 10-session intensive program that’ll take attendees through the art of sampling, songwriting, navigating music studios, mixing and mastering, music management and artist branding, content creation and song release preparation, and social media marketing, before ultimately graduating from the program on Thursday the 5th of June.
The sessions will take place between Campbelltown Arts Centre, Eagle Vale High School, Campbelltown Performing Arts High School and a recording studio, with some sessions being full days, others during after school hours and others during the school holiday break.
In order to be successful as an applicant, you must be available to attend the Conscious NXT Academy in-person at the specified locations for all sessions, you must be aged between 15 and 18 years, living or attending school in the Macarthur region of Sydney and while the key focus for this program is the genres of hip hop and R&B, applications are open to young people working across and are interested in all music genres. The program has a capacity of 16 students, with applicants to receive an email notification outlining the status of their application by Friday the 28th of February.
