The acclaimed author will follow up his appearance at MONA FOMA by heading up the east coast
Venerated British author Neil Gaiman has announced a pair of headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney next year to complement his exisiting antipodean sojourn for January's MONA FOMA event in Tasmania.
The two shows offer distinct prospects for punters' Gaiman experience: Melbourne's show, at the Athenaeum Theatre on Saturday 24 Jan, is titled The Truth Is A Cave In The Black Mountains, based on Gaiman's 2010 novella of the same name, and has been toured in both the United States and United Kingdom to sell-out crowds.
Sydney, meanwhile, will be treated to An Evening With Neil Gaiman at City Recital Hall, Angel Place, on Saturday 31 Jan. Fewer details are known about what his second show entails, being that Gaiman is currently "conspiring" with Sydney's FourPlay "to create something new beforehand", and will also provide audience members with a Q&A session and readings of his work.
Gaiman is renowned as an author of both "traditional" literature and graphic novels; his work on Vertigo's The Sandman is seminal reading for any comics fan, while his prolific literary output (which includes 2013's broadly acclaimed The Ocean At The End Of The Lane as well as lauded children's book Fortunately, The Milk and the forever-unsettling Coraline) should appeal to everyone else. He's also penned scripts for Doctor Who, and even enjoyed a cameo on The Simpsons, once the hallmark of having 'made it'.
