This is not a dream.

More Neil Finn More Neil Finn

Neil Finn's shock appointment to the Fleetwood Mac line-up appears to be a full-time commitment and not a one-off as some may predicted.

Appearing on CBS, when asked if the gig is being considered temporary the Crowded House frontman replied, "Not at all".

Finn was announced to be joining the legendary outfit earlier this month alongside Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, replacing Lindsey Buckingham, which drummer Mick Fleetwood described as "like a marriage that came to an end" rather than a sacking.

"Both these gentlemen have a legacy of their own," Fleetwood said of Finn and Campbell.

"They don't need to have a calling card. They are who they are in their own right."

Vocalist Stevie Nicks revealed Finn's appointment to the band came shortly after they recruited Campbell, citing that they still needed a new singer.

"We sat around a table and we just started listening to everybody we could think of," Nicks said.

"Anywhere between, you know, 27 and 65. It was like — it was crazy!"

Finn added jokingly, "I just made it".

He continued, "I just had this kind of big grin on my face 'cause it's a call you never expect to get."

It took just two days of rehearsals in Maui for the move to be made permanent.

"The essence of the band was great, and fun, and the three voices sound really good together," singer and keyboardist Chrstine McVie said.

"I'm really happy."

Campbell added, "It already feels like a band when we've only played once or twice. But with a little rehearsal, I think it's just gonna be incredible."

Fleetwood Mac kick off their North American tour in October.
