Secret Fringe World venue to re-open historic cinema

Perth's historic Piccadilly Cinema will open its doors once again as a venue for the upcoming Fringe World festival.

Today theMusic.com.au can reveal that the Noodle Palace's collection of theatres will be housed in the cinema complex, after the location was kept secret for a number of weeks. Curated by event promoters JumpClimb and cabaret artist Tomás Ford, it is hoped that by re-opening the doors of the venue it will find a second life by in other arts events.

The art deco cinema, located on Hay St in Perth's CBD, was opened in 1938 but closed in September last year. The leaseholder had battled with financial instability and collapsing ceilings before pulling the plug, while there were reports in local media that the venue's overseas owners were planning extensive renovations.

Hosting Noodle Palace, which last year was located on Beaufort Street, the cinema will now play host to the likes of Sam Perry and Ford, as well as an extensive program of theatre and comedy shows. In total the venue will host 28 acts across 170 shows in its four theatres – The Tina Arena, The Barry Hall, The Ken Dome and The Fifi Box.
