My Chemical Romance can keep dancers in cheerleader costumes, plus prop guns and staged shootings, but can no longer use Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' outfits.

After the owners of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders sued My Chemical Romance for allegedly “degrading” the brand, the band agreed to stop having dancers wear costumes resembling the real-life outfits.

Last Wednesday (21 October), the American emo band performed their first of five sold-out The Black Parade 20th anniversary shows at the Hollywood Bowl. During the hit single Teenagers, dancers in spoofed Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders outfits appeared on stage.

Consequence of Sound noted that, at first, the dancers performed choreography before picking up rifles and presenting themselves as protecting the band from “militarised forces.”

This week, The Wrap reported that Pro Silver Star Ltd., the owner of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, requested a temporary restraining order, a temporary injunction, and unspecified monetary damages against My Chemical Romance.

After last Wednesday's performance, the band held another show at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday (23 October) with dancers in the same costumes, sparking the legal dispute.

Pro Silver Star Ltd.’s filing read, “Audience members and online commentators understandably believed that the performers were the real Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and said so in social media posts that continue to circulate.”

They added, “Silver Star is not litigious, and it takes no issue with MCR’s music, its artistic ambitions, or any message Defendants seek to convey.

“Silver Star does not ask Defendants to change their setlist, narrative, politics, choreography, or even their decision to put gun-toting performers on stage. Silver Star asks only that those performers not wear the DCC Uniform while doing it. The universe of alternative costume designs is effectively unlimited.”

Now, TMZ reports that My Chemical Romance and Pro Silver Star Ltd. have reached an agreement ahead of going to court. The band can reportedly keep the concept of dancers in cheerleader costumes, plus prop guns and staged shootings, but can no longer use Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders outfits.

My Chemical Romance return to the Hollywood Bowl on Friday, 30 and Saturday, 31 October, for their final two nights at the venue.

The emo rockers last toured Australia in March 2023. They performed in arenas in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane and were joined by special guests Jimmy Eat World.

To the disappointment of fans in the region, Australia and New Zealand haven’t been a part of My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade 10th anniversary celebrations thus far.
