Mumford & Sons ProfileByron Bay outfit In Hearts Wake put in a valiant effort, even going so far as to Photoshop a picture of themselves as their midweek ARIA chart rivals Mumford & Sons this week, but were ultimately beaten to the #1 spot by the now-banjo-less UK indie troupe's Wilder Mind, with In Hearts Wake's Skydancer claiming #2.
The two new entries knock vocally injured UK crooner Sam Smith and In The Lonely Hour off his perch at the top, sinking to #3 this week following the cancellation of his Aussie tour, while Ed Sheeran's X drops a spot to #4 and Meghan Trainor's Title rises three to #5 to round out the top five.
In Hearts Wake weren't the only locals to make a strong debut this week, with triple j's live album of their Beat The Drum 40th-anniversary concert stepping out at #10, the next-highest entry for a local act. Haitus Kaiyote are a little ways behind that, but still make a strong entry at #22 with Choose Your Weapon, while Aussie-bred country artist Catherine Britt is back in the charts with new album Boneshaker at #41, just ahead of Splendour In The Grass outfit and US outfit Best Coast, whose California Nights claims #43. However, it's better news for other international acts such as veterans The Zac Brown Band, who come out to play way up the ladder with Jekyll & Hide emerging at #6.
In the Singles charts, Britney Spears' Pretty Girls, featuring Iggy Azalea, makes its debut at #40, which is notable as a leading point because that's the highest new entry on the ladder this week, which is still below Azalea's standalone hit Trouble, still in the top 40 (at #37) after 12 weeks on the chart. Aussie singer Reece Mastin is the next-highest new face, trailing along at #51 with Rebel & The Reason.
Way up the pointy end, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's See You Again maintains its position at the top, but there's a surprising effort for Aussie artist Grace, whose collaboration with G-Eazy, You Don't Own Me, jumps a whopping 12 places to hit #2 this week.
