Mudhoney, Barkaa, I Heart Hiroshima & More Lead Line-up For 4ZZZ's ZED51 Celebration

Last year saw Brisbane’s iconic 4ZZZ turn 50 years old, celebrating the golden jubilee with three months of events. Now, they’re turning one year older and announcing their special ZED51 concert.

Impacting the airwaves on December 8th, 1975, these past five decades have seen the community broadcaster curate a reputation as one of the most beloved stations in the country, with acts they’ve championed becoming not just huge names within Queensland, but around the country and even internationally.

Fresh from the strong reception to last year’s ZED50 gig, organisers are keeping the momentum going with another special event this year, with a batch of local and international names taking over the Roma St parklands on Saturday, October 24th.

Performing across two stages with no clash are none other than US grunge icons Mudhoney; Brisbane alternative/indie veterans Custard; Malyangapa and Barkindji woman, and venerable matriarch of rap Barkaa; Adelaide heavyweights The Mark Of Cain; the cathartic Cash Savage & The Last Drinks; and Japanese rockers Shonen Knife.

Also appearing on the bill is I Heart Hiroshima, who stage a one-off return as part of the celebrations. Add in appearances from the likes of Tape/Off, DEM MOB, Superhotel, Still Full From Lunch, and more, and it's an event destined to appeal to music lovers all across the Sunshine State and beyond.

“Last year 4ZZZ turned 50, to celebrate we hosted a plethora of events, across three months, that resulted in one heck of a birthday party,” says station manager Nick Stephan. “One such event was ZED50, a nod to the market days of old and a showcase of the sound of our community – past, present and future.

“‘Do it again next year,’ the crowd screamed. “Well, you yelled and we listened, so we are gearing up to do it all again at ZED51. This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever. It recognises how far 4ZZZ has come since 1975 and where it is headed post 50th.

Tickets to the event are on sale from midday on Thursday, June 25th, with 4ZZZ subscribers able to access a presale from midday on Wednesday, June 24th.
