'The Best Room' follows 'Lampshades On Fire' and 'Coyotes' as the next taster from their eagerly awaited next full-length
Go figure, man — Modest Mouse have taken eight years to follow-up 2007's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, and now it feels like they're so excited to get it out into the world that we'll end up hearing the whole darned thing before its March release date.
Not that we're complaining, mind you; the band's generosity in unveiling their long-awaited new works has so far yielded the recorded version of long-time live staple Lampshades On Fire, a wonderfully adorable clip for follow-up single Coyotes, and now the audio from the third track to be previewed from the album, The Best Room.
Perhaps moreso than its immediate predecessors, The Best Room harkens back to the warbly, ugly-rock days of the band's Good News For People Who Love Bad News days, all plodding percussion and alternately mixed, off-beat guitars interspersed with passages of ethereal imperfection and detuned blurts from various instruments. In other words, it's pretty great.
Strangers To Ourselves is due for release internationally on 3 March.
