Two beloved Australian bands, Models and Boom Crash Opera, are joining forces to hit the road from November into 2025.

What was initially a one-off co-headline show at Melbourne's Corner Hotel on Sunday, 3 November, has expanded into a full-blown Australian tour. The two influential acts are set to take the show to Sydney, Brisbane, Thirroul, Adelaide, and Perth.

One of the bands’ two Sydney shows is notably at Selina’s – a venue that will be demolished to make way for a new six-storey apartment building. Tickets to all the shows are now on sale via the Models and Boom Crash Opera websites, with special guest James Reyne opening the gigs at Selina’s and Brisbane’s Eatons Hill.

Last October and November, Models toured across the country to celebrate their breakthrough hit, I Hear Motion, turning 40.

I Hear Motion was the first single from Models’ third album, The Pleasure Of Your Company, released in 1983. The track peaked at #16 on the Kent (pre-ARIA) Music Report for two weeks, but on Melbourne’s 3XY Chart, it landed at #12.

The song began as Andrew Duffield’s attempt to play Stevie Wonder’s Superstition on the keyboard. It then turned into an instrumental piece called Gag Bag before morphing into the song we’ve known and loved since 1983. This led to the band getting the opportunity of a lifetime to open for David Bowie overseas.

Meanwhile, Boom Crash Opera were busy earlier this year, touring with 1927 in March and April. In December, they were cover stars on The Music. “There is only one way to play our music, and that is on 11,” Peter Maslen, the drummer in Boom Crash Opera, told The Music’s Noel Mengel.

“Over the years we’ve learnt that we have to play the music in a certain way. We have tried pulling it back here and there, but that doesn’t work. We play it as hard as we can, full tilt.” You can revisit that feature here.
