In the In the heart of Brisbane, Australia, the music industry converged for BIGSOUND 2023, an annual event that celebrates innovation, creativity, and the future of music.
Among the myriad of talented artists, industry professionals, and music enthusiasts who graced the stage, one figure stood out as a beacon of inspiration and wisdom—none other than the legendary Mike Shinoda, co-founder of the iconic band Linkin Park.
As the festival's keynote speaker, Mike Shinoda not only commanded the stage but also the hearts and minds of all those fortunate enough to witness his remarkable address.
His presence, charisma, and undeniable talent left an indelible mark on the event, as he provided profound insights into Linkin Park's extraordinary journey, his friendship with the late Chester Bennington, and his plans for the future.
Shinoda also gave a shout-out to his favourite Aussie artists — Sia, Flume and G Flip — and revealed that he previously linked up with G Flip for a track that didn’t make the cut.
“I did get a chance to work with G Flip. We did it a track a few years ago and I didn't really go anywhere, and we kind of fell out of touch for a second. And then they came to the US and they hit me up and said, ‘I want to make my next record, I want to really focus on the drums and live instrumentation,’ and I was like ‘great!’”

“And we tried a few things, we wrote a few things, but at the end of the day, they didn't use those songs for the album, I don't know if they have a plan to put them out.”
He added, “We spend most time on one song, I feel like that song is good. Is a great? I don't think so. But Georgia and I get along great and I know we can write good things together. So just because we didn't do it yet. it doesn’t mean we won’t in future. And that's the same for other artists I've worked with — some artists that we did some things that we didn't release, and those aren't going to come out. But I try and treat those relationships as ones that haven't come together just yet.”
G Flip previously spoke of the collab in an interview with Front Row Live Ent. in 2018, saying: “He gave me his email address. And hit me up. And I was like ‘I've been a massive Linkin Park fan since I was a kid!’”
“And I remember going to SOUNDWAVE to see Linkin Park. I'm like small, I'm like five foot three — I'm a little human just getting crushed in the mosh and trying to get as close as I can to the stage to see Linkin Park. So when Mr. Mike messaged me, I told all my friends — I texted everyone!”
