26 November 2021 | 8:37 am | Staff Writer

"We’ve reached people in ways we never could have imagined."

More Midnight Oil More Midnight Oil

Midnight Oil have today announced that a chapter of their career will come to a memorable close next year, with the release of a new album, recorded with bassist and backing vocalist Bones Hillman prior to his passing, and a series of headline gigs, aptly titled, RESIST.

The album is a forward-looking statement, one that challenges with issues of today and tomorrow. Its lead single, Rising Seas, which was released a month ago, tackled the climate crisis in an uncompromising fashion.

Alongside the news, the band has revealed they will be embarking on their final ever concert tour, while making it clear that this does not mean the end of the Oils.

Each band member will continue their own projects, while being open to recording new music together in the future, supporting causes they believe.

Frontman Peter Garrett reflects on the impact of the band so far: "We all know time refuses to stand still for anyone but after many years together the band’s spirit is deep, the music and words are strong, and our ideas and actions as bold as we can make them.

"We’ve reached people in ways we never could have imagined. Our desire to create and speak out is undimmed. We hope everyone who hears this album and gets to one of the shows will come away charged up about the planet’s future, saying ‘why stop now?'
