American indie folk five-piece Midlake are back making music together, and revealed the details of their upcoming LP For The Sake Of Bethel Woods - their first full length release since 2013's Antiphon.
The 11-track release is slated for release next March, and features a candid image of keyboardist Jesse Chandler's father - who passed away in 2018 - as the album's cover art.
“He was a lovely human, and it was really heavy and sad, and he came to Jesse in a dream," vocalist Eric Puildo explained. I reference it in a song. He said, ‘Hey, Jesse, you need to get the band back together.’ I didn’t take that lightly. We had already had these feelings with everyone in the band of, oh, this could be a cool thing to do. But the dream was a kind of beautiful depiction of a purpose to reconvene and make music together as friends.”
Chandler reflected on the catharsis of the imagery, stating, "for me, the picture of that kid, my dad, forever frozen in time... encapsulates what it means to be in the throes of impressionable and fleeting youth, and all that the magic of music, peace, love and communion bring to it, whether one knows it at the time or not.”
The band also shared the first single from the album, Meanwhile, with a brand new lyric video premiering early this morning.
For The Sake Of Bethel Woods is out 18 March 2022 and is available for preorder now. Check out the new clip for Meanwhile below.
