More Middle Kids More Middle Kids

Aussie indie rockers Middle Kids have done something that may feel surprising to some Oasis fans: they’ve put their own twist on a song that shouldn’t be covered.

Performing the Oasis classic Champagne Supernova for Like A Version, Middle Kids toned down the rock and roll feel of the original song, opting for a tender, keyboard-driven arrangement that spotlights the song’s stunning storytelling.

Adding to the intimacy of the performance was seeing the band sitting on the floor and playing their instruments, including a mini keyboard on a milk crate.

In an interview with triple j about their Like A Version, singer Hannah Joy revealed that Oasis are longtime inspirations for Middle Kids and have always made her feel cool. She also shared that Champagne Supernova was her mother’s favourite Oasis song. Can we have Middle Kids open for Oasis on their Live ’25 tour of Australia next year?

You can watch Middle Kids’ Like A Version and their interview about the performance below.

Middle Kids are currently on a regional tour of Australia in support of their latest album, Faith Crisis Pt 1. If you’re seeing them tonight in Ballarat or on their upcoming dates, which end in Cairns on Sunday, 3 November, we wouldn’t be too surprised if they bring out a version of Champagne Supernova.

Earlier this year, Hannah Joy discussed the challenges of balancing her life in a touring band and motherhood in an interview with The Music.

“I think that if you want to be a mum and a touring musician, there’s sacrifice, and you can’t do it the way you used to,” she said. “But I will say that it is possible, and you just have to find your way.

“Being a mum can be isolating, but also being a touring musician can be isolating – you’re away, and on the move, all the time – but I feel excited about keeping on trying to figure it out and then reaching out to other mums who are artists and trying to do that journey together; that’s been really encouraging.”

Middle Kids’ cover of Champagne Supernova arrived at the perfect time. The English rockers recently added their fifth and final date to their 2025 Australian tour after announcing their long-awaited reunion in late August.
