The awards are tomorrow
A hologram of the late Michael Jackson is set to appear at tomorrow's Billboard Music Awards.
According to the Huffington Post, a judge has ruled that the appearance would not violate patents held by Hologram USA Inc. and Musion Das Hologram Ltd., who own the rights to the technology behind the famous hologram of late rap icon Tupca Shakur that featured at Coachella in 2012.
The two companies claimed that one of their products was being used without authorisation by a competing business, but there was not enough evidence to suggest this and the techniques to create the hologram were in the public domain, the judge found.
The Jackson estate attorney Howard Weitzman said that he was not surprised at the decision and it was "ludicrous" for anyone to attempt to stop what would be an "extraordinary Michael Jackson event."

The performance is set to celebrate the release of Jackson's newest posthumous album Xscape, which debuted at three on this week's ARIA Albums chart.
The awards take place tomorrow in Las Vegas, with the likes of Lorde, Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Imagine Dragons up for a number of gongs. Kiwi teenager Lorde is also set to perform, as will Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea and local pop-rock boy band 5 Seconds Of Summer.
