Melbourne singer-songwriter Mia Dyson has elaborated on her messy experience working with The Eurythmics Dave Stewart during her tenure in the US.

Back in July, we reported on the troubles that Dyson encountered with Stewart when she was finding her feet as a musician. He was reported to have tried to get her to take on a more androgynous look and perform under the moniker BOY. Dyson eventually realised this wasn't the right career move for her and cut her musical ties with Stewart.

Now a few months later, her take on the experience isn't as bitter, just more reflective.

“I guess I would now say, in hindsight, I am really grateful for having been sort of tested in that way of, would I listen to my intuition?”she said in this week's The Drum Media.

“And would I, in effect, turn down some potentially big opportunities in order to stay true to what I feel and get to make the music I want to make? And it was really tough, and I made myself, I think, a little sick, being in that dichotomy for a little while.”

Dyson is more than happy with her decision to stay true to herself.

“Coming out the other side I feel glad that I had that experience and it just solidified my belief in the idea that it's not success that's going to make me happy. Not that it's not worth pursuing but that the first goal is be creatively fulfilled and go after that first, and if success comes out of that, then great.”
