Methyl Ethel Announce New Album Alongside Fresh Single With Stella Donnelly

“Stella is one of the most truth-telling artists I’ve ever heard."

More Methyl Ethel Methyl Ethel

Methyl Ethel - the musical outlet of Western Australian Jake Webb - has today announced the release of their highly anticipated fourth album, Are You Haunted?, is set for release on February 18 via Future Classic.

For the record, Webb returned to a studio where he recorded and wrote the first songs for Methyl Ethel.

He described the album's concept: “There are these spirits, memories of our old selves, our younger selves, parents. Generations past whose deeds, actions, successes and failures shape us. We all have these ghosts that linger in our present predicaments.”

The album features previously released singles including Neon Cheap and Matters as well as new track Proof featuring Stella Donnelly which released today.

Proof can best be described as a meditation on reality, tackling the post-climate-crisis, post-COVID, post-Trump era, and the scientific public discourse surrounding it.

Proof has a lot of direct references to movies," Webb said.

"I was watching a lot of foreign films at night on mute with the sound down. It was US election time in 2020 and COVID was everywhere in the media and there was a maelstrom of information and I like the idea of asking, ‘What is proof?’

"One person’s truth is another person’s gossip. It’s a surreal little painting of those bits and pieces.

"Stella is one of the most truth-telling artists I’ve ever heard. It made a perfect match.”
