Mell HallIt can be hard to cut through with a debut single, but an emerging Adelaide producer has done just that with her first offering, breaking a major dry spell on the Aussie charts while doing so.
With Knock Knock, SA artist Mell Hall has become the first female artist to top ARIA Club Chart with a debut single in 13 years, following on from Aussie talent Zoe Badwi in 2008 with Release Me.
The new track, which dropped via Club Sweat last month and features Thandi Phoenix, jumped from fifth place to #1 on last week’s charts. Knock Knock also marks Phoenix’s first time on the Club Chart.
Hall is now the fifth female artist to top the Club Chart since it launched in 1999, following on from Sarah McLeod (2006), Badwi (2008), Helena (2012) and Beth Yen (2019).
“WOW! So unbelievably overwhelmed to have a #1 ARIA Club record,” Hall said.
“I knew Knock Knock was something special from day one, but never expected this result! When I found out I was the first female debut number one in 13 years - gobsmacked - truly honoured, there’s been some tears!
“Endless thank-yous to my team, my label and everyone involved in the record. And of course, Ms. Thandi Phoenix for dominating that vocal. Big love to everyone playing and listening to Knock Knock, forever grateful.”
