12 August 2021 | 11:12 am | Staff Writer

Time to start guessing...

The Masked Singer Australia is set to return in 2021!

The much-loved singing competition - where well-known celebrities wear elaborate masks and costumes to disguise their identity until they're voted off - is expected back on 10 sometime this year, with the first trailer now live.

While there's no premiere date as yet, information from the network has revealed that there will be celebrities from both Australia and abroad in this year's competition.

The first six contestants have been shown in their costumes as part of the trailer, named Baby, Mullet, Kebab, Piñata, Atlantis and Vampire. Watch the trailer below.

Across its two seasons, The Masked Singer Australia has proven to be a ratings smash for the network.

Just like the debut season, the second series was a huge hit. The Masked Singer posted a national total average audience of 1.23 million viewers, including a capital city total audience of 915,000 over the five-week run.

A number of big names have been involved in the show already, including Kate Miller-Heidke, Eddie Perfect, Mark Philippoussis, Katie Noonan, and more.

The Music caught up with host Osher Günsberg to chat about the show last year,

"It's just such a beautiful show," he said. "It's such a perfect show for exactly this time in the world, 'cause it's absolutely empty and meaningless. Nothing matters.

"There's a trophy, but there's no prize. It's just, 'Who is it? Let's find out.'"

"The other night we had an eight foot tall sloth on stage and in 90 seconds she did three costume changes, there was pyro, there was a confetti drop and a key change... no one is making TV like this."
