Mariah Carey Sets Spotify Record For Most Streams In One Day

Mariah’s reign on Christmas continues for yet another year...

More Mariah Carey Mariah Carey Profile

Mariah Carey’s reign on Christmas has continued for yet another year, with the multi-hyphenate queen having just set a new record on Spotify.

Carey’s time-honoured holiday anthem, All I Want For Christmas Is You, racked up a mighty 23.78 million streams on Christmas Eve (December 24), breaking the record for most streams earned by a single track in one day.

Notably, Carey broke the exact same record on Christmas Day 2022, when the track was streamed 21.35 million times. At the time of writing, All I Want For Christmas Is You has been played on Spotify a little under 1.78 billion times altogether.

Earlier this month, Carey accepted defeat as All I Want For Christmas Is You was dethroned from its annual #1 position on the Billboard 200. It was taken over by Brenda Lee’s own festive classic, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – and in response, Carey sent her fellow icon a bouquet of flowers.

Last year, Carey spurred controversy when she tried to trademark the phrase ‘Queen Of Christmas’. She had pushback from holiday-famous singers like Darlene Love and Elizabeth Chan, the latter of whom formally declared opposition to the trademark and said it should be rejected due to “false suggestion of a connection with persons, living or dead, institutions, beliefs, or national symbols”.
