A police raid of a Melbourne nightclub earlier this month has resulted in one man being charged with possessing and trafficking 85 ecstasy tablets.

As The Age reports, police targeted Room 680 in Hawthorn as the venue has been linked to the death of a 19-year-old female in May last year and a 17-year-old male in July

Police raided the venue on 13 August and caught 11 other punters with drugs.

"Victoria Police is extremely concerned about the drug use and subsequent overdoses in the nightclub scene in Hawthorn and are liaising with venue operators to address the issue," a police spokesperson said.

Room 680 owner David Christensen earlier this month denied any knowledge of illegal drugs being consumed in his venue.

"I've been in the industry a long time and I have a good record," Christensen said at the time.

"I'm sure if the police had more information they would inform me."

The Room 680 raid is the latest drug bust to occur in Melbourne over the last few months.

Most recently, two nightclub promoters were alleged to be involved in an international drug smuggling syndicate after they were accused of trafficking a large amount of ice into the country.
