“I’m taking you on a journey to myself."
Musical visionary Luke Steele has gathered critical and popular attention throughout his career whether with The Sleepy Jackson or conquering the world with platinum-selling act Empire Of The Sun.
Today he has announced the birth of a new chapter of his music, with his debut solo album, Listen To The Water, set for release on May 13.
What results is a record that is filled with a sense of wisdom and innocence, and the pondering of questions without the need for answers. Sonically Steele's vocals reflect on vulnerability amongst a bed of acoustic guitars and nuanced percussion.
“I’m taking you on a journey to myself,” Steele said of his forthcoming album. "This solo record was a chance for me to be naked, fearless and on my own. That was confronting. There was salvation and sadness, dreams and nightmares, heroes and villains. Strange changes, epiphanies, miracles and madness.”
Alongside the announcement, he's released Common Man, which sets the tone of human frailty for the forthcoming record.
It's a track about the underdog, the working class, and the triumph that is born from that struggle.
