Lizzo Confirms Hiatus From Music

The ‘Juice’ singer confirmed the news on a Bali trip, following earlier allegations of workplace misconduct & quitting rumours.

More Lizzo Lizzo

"Woo girl, need to kick off your shoes / Got to take a deep breath, time to focus on you," Lizzo sings in her smash hit Good As Hell, now taking her own advice into reality.

The US singer recently announced on her social media that, after a whirlwind year, she is stepping down from the podium to take time away from her music career.

Lizzo, who is holidaying in Bali, announced the news online alongside a video of her in a swimsuit, lapping up the rain: “I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace.”

The news is far from unexpected, as the singer was featured in some pretty hefty allegations in late 2023. Former dancers, including Ariana Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, filed a lawsuit against dance captain Shirlene Quigley, Lizzo, and Lizzo’s production company Big Grrrl Big Touring in August 2023.

Quickly acquired by online sources, the lawsuit detailed cases of Lizzo allegedly encouraging misconduct and creating a hostile work environment, meanwhile also being cited for sexual harassment.

A detailed account of an incident in an Amsterdam club made fans lose faith in the singer, as accusations of pressuring dancers into lewd situations with nude performers were brought to the forefront. Other accusations included Lizzo calling attention to dancers’ weight gain despite Lizzo’s reputation as a body positivity advocate.

Earlier in 2024, the Juice singer took to Instagram to let off steam about the allegations:

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy, and help the world be a little better than how I found it.

“But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”

The singer left a blunt end note - “I didn’t sign up for this shit – I QUIT”.

Confirming the news of her hiatus, the singer will be taking a gap year to reassess her career trajectory and continue lawsuit proceedings.
