Dead Can Dance's Lisa Gerrard, former Models member Roger Mason and singer/songwriter Lior last night picked up Screen Music Awards for their work composing for Australian film and television.

While Sydney star composer Antony Partos led the night – as was expected – with awards for Best Television Theme (The Slap), Best Music For A Mini-Series Or Telemovie (Mabo) and Best Soundtrack Album (The Slap), Gerrard won the big gong in the form of Feature Film Score Of The Year (Burning Man).

Former member of Models and Gary Numan's touring band (he also spent a brief stint in Icehouse), Roger Mason won Best Music For A Short Film (This Dog's Life) and Lior took home Best Original Song Composed For The Screen (Hey Hootabelle from Giggle & Hoot).

Held at Melbourne's BMW EDGE, the night was hosted by Chris Taylor and Andrew Hanson from The Chaser – who were apt and funny hosts throughout.

Hansen had to disclose interest in one category because his sister Vicki was nominated in a category he'd previously won (Best Television Theme). That banter led to the night's best joke involving incest and the size of composer Cezary Skubiszewski's member (“You think his name is a mouthful!”).

Other highlights included Jack Thompson's opening read of The Man From Snowy River while Paul Grabowsky's orchestra played music from the film. He also presented Lisa Gerrard's award. Audience members were also treated to the venue's Yarra-backdrop while the sun set behind the tress that were hanging across the glass-encased venue.
