Madonna has teamed up with Canadian filmmaker and actor Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things) for a limited series about her life and music, which is set to head to Netflix. Madonna will reportedly executive produce the series alongside Levy’s 21 Laps.
As reported by Deadline, the series, which will reportedly be biographical, is separate from the feature biopic about the singer that was in the works. Ozark actress Julia Garner was previously the top choice to portray Madonna in the Universal film.
Details surrounding the series are sparse at the time of publication. Deadline notes the project's early development and that it’s unclear which time period in Madonna’s career it will focus on.
Deadline also reports that Garner may be attached to the forthcoming project. She doesn’t currently have a deal in place, but she just signed with Netflix to appear in another series, following her scene-stealing roles in Ozark and Inventing Anna.
The news of a forthcoming limited series about Madonna’s life comes a month after the singer “buried the hatchet” with Elton John, effectively ending their decades-long feud.

The feud began in 2002, when John described her song Die Another Day as the “worst Bond tune ever.” He then criticised her for alleged lip-synching in 2004. John and his husband, David Furnish, again had something to say after Madonna took home the award for her song Masterpiece from the 2011 film W.E. at the 2012 Golden Globes.
Following her win, Furnish took to social media and wrote that her victory showed the awards had “nothing to do with merit.”
Outlining the toll the feud took on her, Madonna said upon the pair making up last month, “Over the decades, it hurt me to know that someone I admired so much shared his dislike of me publicly as an artist,” she wrote. “I didn’t understand it. I was told Elton John was the musical guest on SNL, and I decided to go.”
After John asked for forgiveness, the pair hugged “within minutes.” She added, “Then he told me he had written a song for me and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!!”
