How would you react if you got on a tram and, instead of hearing the robotic voice announcing each stop, you heard Liam Gallagher making the announcements? Well, if you live in his home city of Manchester, you can find out this week.

The former Oasis singer and solo artist is embarking on a new venture while celebrating the Bee Network, Greater Manchester’s public transport system, and in partnership with the new festival, Beyond The Music. Using pre-recorded snippets, Gallagher will announce his favourite stops as they go.

“When the request was first made by Bee Network champion Andy Burnham, Liam loved the idea of surprising tram users by doing the announcements, and he was given the chance to choose his favourite line,” a spokesperson for Gallagher said in a statement per NME. “You’ll have to get onto a tram into the city to find out which it is!”

The Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham commented, “It means a lot to us that Liam has agreed to do this and show his support for his home city. Supporting our music venues and giving people cheaper and better public transport to and from our gigs is what we’re all about.

“I am sure that Liam’s dulcet tones will wake up a few early-morning commuters, brighten up many a journey and produce a lot of smiles along the way.”

Beyond The Music is Manchester’s newest conference-meets-music event, taking place in venues across the city from 11-14 October. It’s four nights of parties, live music, conferences, keynotes, panels and workshops. You can find more information about the event here.

Last month, Liam Gallagher adopted a rescue dog from Thailand named Buttons and gave her a new home in the UK. Gallagher reposted a tweet from sanctuary worker Niall Harbison, who wrote about the Wonderwall singer: “From being dumped in the Thai jungle to this. You couldn't make it up Buttons.”

Harbison added, “You did it, brave little girl. She's in safe hands [with] Liam Gallagher.”

Last year, Gallagher stated his interest in an Oasis reunion and regretted the split. In an interview with The Times, he shared, “I'd love Oasis to get back together. If it happens, it happens. We should never have split up, but we did, and this is where we're at.”

On their fallout in 2009, he added: “I thought we'd be the Stones, doing it until the day we died. We might have had a break, gone off and done our own thing, and then got back on it. For it to implode like that was disastrous. I went off the rails a bit when it happened, because it was the thing that glued my life together.”
