Legendary Australian Rock Outfit Beasts Of Bourbon To Reform For Bass Player's Benefit Concert

Iconic Australian rockers Beasts Of Bourbon are set to reform next month to headline a benefit concert in honour of the band's bassist, Brian Hooper, who was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer last year. 

Taking place at Melbourne's Prince Bandroom on 13 April, the very special I Get Up Again gig will also feature performances from an all-star line-up, including Kim Salmon & The New Scientists, Adalita, Mick Harvey, Gareth Liddiard and Rosie Westbrook.

"Despite being told that he would never walk again, Brian determinedly rehabilitated himself to a point way past expectation," Beasts Of Bourbon frontman Tex Perkins said about Hooper's freak balcony fall in 2004.

"His recovery was a true Phoenix rising from the ashes episode and was an inspiration to the rest of us beasts. Brian’s accident really showed what he was made of - true grit.

"Cancer better watch out - Brian just might kick its fucking arse."

Benefit organiser and Beasts drummer Tony Pola said the show will be "rare and unique".

"As you’d expect from an artist of Brian’s pedigree, it will bring some of Australia’s most respected alternative rock, seminal punk and swamp blues artists together for what is shaping up to be an unmissable night."

Formed in 1983, Beasts Of Bourbon blew up the very next year with their debut album, The Axeman's Jazz.

Together they released five more studio records, with the last being 2007's Little Animals.
