In 1992, Australia’s pop princess Kylie Minogue and music icon Prince collaborated on a track called Baby Doll. For 32 years, nobody knew what the song sounded like—until now.
NME reports that the song was born after Minogue met Prince backstage during his Diamonds And Pearls tour at Earls Court.
After asking the Purple Rain star what he was up to, Minogue was invited back to Prince’s Paisley Park studio in Minneapolis.
In 2018, Minogue confirmed the song’s existence and said that Prince asked her, “Where are the lyrics?” He handled the instrumentation and vocals for the demo and reportedly wanted Kylie Minogue to sing on the final version.
In the video below, the song features lyrics written by Minogue. They are: “Let me be your baby doll, sugar and spice and all things nice/ Let me be your paradise.”
Following Prince’s questions about lyrics, Minogue wrote some for the song. A demo cassette of Baby Doll was reportedly posted to Minogue’s address but went missing.

Minogue has previously claimed that her record label wasn’t interested in a version of Baby Doll completely produced by Prince, so she was never on an official recording of the song. She added that she thought the Prince Estate might have possessed a copy of the demo.
According to the YouTube description, Baby Doll was reportedly meant to be a Vault track recorded between 1990 and 1992 on a Diamonds And Love compilation. The Prince Estate was apparently set to release the collection in 2022.
Unfortunately, Kylie’s vocals are not featured in the song. Hopefully, someone will send her the masters in time for the Tension tour so we can hear this funky gem live.

Kylie Minogue recently released the sister album to her latest album, Tension, with Tension II. The album arrived just weeks after she announced her highly anticipated Tension Tour of Australia. She’s set to perform in arenas across the country in February and March 2025.
