Overnight, Kylie Minogue shared Tension, the title track from her new album and the follow-up to her extraordinary comeback single, Padam Padam.

As catchy as its predecessor, Tension fires up with touches on the keyboard as Minogue comes in with a blast of repetition and the command to “touch me right there”. The lustful, club-ready new number encourages Minogue’s partner – “Don’t be shy, I don’t bite” and brings the energy of house music alongside a slick guitar melody.

You can listen to Tension below. At 9 pm AEST, the “retro-future” music video directed by Sophie Muller will premiere on YouTube. Head to the link below later tonight to check it out.

Minogue co-wrote Tension alongside her collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell, with KAMILLE, Anya Jones and Jon Green.

Tension follows the exact musical path Minogue teased in an interview with the Irish Times earlier this year. Careful not to give too much away (this interview was conducted and published before Padam Padam dropped) about her new music, she still teased numerous different styles that would appear on a forthcoming album.

Minogue described her new album as a “pop-dance exploration”.

She added, “I can’t give too much away, but there’s some 2000s electro, Nineties house and what I like to call emoto-pop. I can’t wait to share this with fans and enter the next era of music and live performance.”

In a separate interview with UK newspaper The Sun, Minogue teased, “I can't reveal what the sound is yet, but it is all super exciting. It's always a challenge to find that next sound.

“My last album [Disco, released in 2020] was mostly made during lockdown. To be back in the studio with some of my favourite people is simply a joy.”

Tension the album has been described as a collection of “unabashed pleasure-seeking, seize-the-moment, joyful pop tunes” in a recent press release.

Tension will hit record shelves on Friday, 22 September, via BMG. Tension was made to help Minogue “navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”

On the new album, Minogue added, “I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
