Kylie Minogue has just unveiled the opening track from her upcoming album, Tension. Padam Padam is the second taste of the album following the recent release of 10 Out Of 10 (with DJ Oliver Heldens).

Australia’s pop princess showcased Padam Padam’s entrancing beat earlier today in a teaser video, with the clip being revealed here in Australia at 11pm. Check out the music video below.

The new single arrives just a week after Minogue announced the release of Tension, slated to arrive on Friday, 22 September, via BMG.

Tension follows Minogue’s 2020 album, Disco and 2018's Golden. While Minogue is undoubtedly a national treasure, she's been fighting declining sales over her previous few records and has struggled to find the ubiquitous radio hits of her early and mid career periods. Padam Padam could turn that around with a fresh and vibrant dance sound that sounds completely 2023 while still remaining unmistakably Kylie. Try getting THIS out of your head.

Tension was made to help Minogue “navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story,” she said in a press release.

Minogue’s statement about the album continued: “I started this album with an open mind and a blank page.

“Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme,’ it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song. I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”

Reuniting with longtime collaborator Richard “Biff” Stannard and Disco contributor Duck Blackwell, Minogue said about the experience of making a new album, “I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!”

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Minogue was back in the studio working on new music.

The Sun quoted her as saying: “I've been making albums now for over 30 years, but each one is a different journey. I'm ready for new music.

She continued, "I can't reveal what the sound is yet, but it is all super exciting. It's always a challenge to find that next sound.”
