Prolific Australian rock band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are staying true to their reputation, today announcing the release of their 26th album, FLIGHT b741.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard revealed the album art, tracklist and release date for their forthcoming LP on Instagram this morning (2 July).

Featuring ten tracks, FLIGHT b741 is the first release on the band’s new record label, p(doom) Records, which they introduced back in May. The album will be available for pre-order on Tuesday, 9 July, with the first single and music video (directed by filmmaker Guy Tyzack) set to land on the same day.

FLIGHT b741 will be released on Friday, 9 August. The band’s vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Stu Mackenzie said of the album, “Been working real hard on this one. So excited for you all to hear it! Thanks for flying”.

While King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard dropped five albums in 2022, last year, they released two albums: the heavy metal-inspired PetroDragonic Apocalypse Or, Dawn Of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth And The Beginning Of Merciless Damnation and the synth-laden, electronic-influenced LP, The Silver Cord.

PetroDragonic Apocalypse debuted at #2 in Australia, while in the US, it hit #3 on the US Top Hard Rock Albums Chart. The Silver Cord landed at #5 in Australia, #4 on the UK Dance Albums Chart, and #30 on the UK Album Downloads Chart.

Earlier this year, the PetroDragonic banger Gila Monster was shortlisted for the APRA Song of the Year.

In 2023, the band was hosting three-hour shows with “no set breaks,” offering an “endless party” to their fans in the US.

A year earlier, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard won the inaugural $20,000 publicly-voted Environmental Music Prize.

Their 2020 single, If Not Now, Then When? was set in a post-eco-apocalyptic time, questioning the inaction of our leaders and calling for immediate action on climate change.

The band donated the prize money to The Wilderness Society to further conversation and climate action in Australia.
