Alongside Tash Sultana and D.D Dumbo
Prolific psych-rock maestros King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are having an absolutely massive 24-hours, following up a smashing effort at last night’s Age Music Victoria Awards by taking out two J Awards.
The Melbourne rockers have claimed Double J Australian Artist of the Year, while their Jason Galea and Danny Cohen director People Vultures clip took out Australian Music Video of the Year.
Also riding a wave of success, fellow Melbourne buzz artist Tash Sultana beat out some tough competition to win Unearthed Artist of the Year, and DD Dumbo’s (aka Oliver Hugh Perry) smashing Utopia Defeated took down the likes of The Avalanches, Flume and Violent Soho to claim triple j’s Australian Album of the Year, joining previous winners Tame Impala, Gotye, Courtney Barnett and more.
“He’s created a sound that is incredibly striking. It’s strong in both its vision and quality, and in a huge year for Australian releases, it also stood out for its inventiveness,” Richard Kingsmill said of the release.
