It’s been a long time between drinks for Kid Cudi, and as he wraps up a run of local festival dates, the hip hop legend has teased a full-scale Australian return in the near future.

Cudi touched down in Australia in late December to launch a three-date run of shows which saw him performing at Beyond The Valley in Victoria on New Year’s Eve, and the Brisbane and Perth editions of Wildlands on January 1st and 3rd, respectively.

The shows were his first in the country since 2012, when he performed as part of the Heatwaves festival, just two years after visiting for the penultimate edition of the Good Vibrations festival.

Since then, a full nine albums have been released by the musician, with the eager Australian crowds clearly making an impact on him across the New Years period.

“This whole trip, New Zealand, Australia — this whole little tour was fucking epic,” Cudi said in a video shared to his Instagram stories on January 3rd. "I want to thank everybody that came to the show, everybody that was losing their shit to every song, singing every word.

“That shit means so much to me. Thank you for coming out. I’ll be back soon. While I was here I was already planting the seeds for a little tour down under.

“I'll be back, and we'll do it right,” he added. “A full set, all the smashes, all the deep cuts and some new shit.”

As it stands, Cudi is yet to perform his own headline tour of the country. Prior to his 2010 and 2012 festival appearances, his first major run of dates in Australia came in late 2008 when he was a support act for Kanye West on the rapper’s Glow In The Dark tour.

Those shows took place a matter of months after the release of his debut single, Day 'n' Nite, and months before the track made an impact on the local charts.
