Earlier this month, American multi-platinum-selling superstar Khalid announced the release of his new album, Sincere. Now, it turns out that in a world exclusive, his Australian fans will hear the album played live for the first time just days after its release.

Calling his soon-to-be-released new album a “return to form,” Sincere follows Khalid’s 2019 album, Free Spirit. The new album will be released on Friday, 2 August.

On Monday, 5, and Tuesday, 6 August, Khalid will perform his new songs exclusively at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.

In a statement, the Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, said of locking in the massive gigs: “In an already big year of music moments at Sydney Opera House, here’s an absolutely extraordinary global exclusive – the young, generation-defining artist Khalid is flying halfway around the world next week to premiere his new album Sincere.”

Marshall continued, “For two nights only, the acoustically revitalised Concert Hall will transform into an intimate, in-the-round twenty-five hundred seat setting for this megastar – who last played to more than 30,000 people in Sydney alone – a room perfect for Khalid’s utterly sublime voice. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment and I’m beyond thrilled he's bringing it here to share with us first.”

On Instagram, Khalid added, “Surprise!!! I’m so excited to be celebrating the release of my new album in a place I’ll always hold dear to my heart. It’s been 5 years since I’ve last seen you, Australia! 🇦🇺 I can’t wait to perform my entire album for the first time ever! So surreal to have gotten to this point once again. See you there!”

In a live review, The Music’s Tobias Handke said of the star’s first-ever show in Melbourne (which was upgraded from The Forum to Festival Hall due to demand) in 2017: “Khalid solidifies himself as R&B's most interesting and charismatic performer since Frank Ocean.”
