Keli Holiday – aka Adam Hyde – continues to enjoy the success of his hit single, Dancing2, recently recording a Bruce Springsteen classic for triple j’s Like A Version. The video was posted on YouTube today.

Backed by a full band, including a keyboardist and a string section, Holiday stayed true to the spirit of I’m On Fire, a beloved Springsteen hit, before picking up the tempo and showcasing Baker Boy on the yidaki.

The perfect song choice, with the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere just landing in cinemas, and I’m On Fire itself ripe for reimagining, it’s fair to say Holiday nailed it.

Opening up about his song choice, Holiday said, “The Boss is The Boss for a reason. I was quite a late bloomer to this fact of life.”

Admitting that he only fell in love with I’m On Fire four years ago while on a plane, needing to press replay on it, Holiday described the song as “very powerful in its simplicity,” as well as “horny and haunting.”

He also described his cover as “very Australian,” with Baker Boy playing the yidaki and a celebratory, pub energy towards the end of the song.

Holiday concluded, “If The Boss was to hear this cover, I would just hope that he even does one little foot tap, you know? That’s all I’m asking for, Boss—just one foot tap; one hip shimmy. Nothing too much.”

You can check out the cover and explanation of the song choice below, as well as a live rendition of Dancing2.

Next month, Keli Holiday will perform two intimate shows in Australia, taking over venues in Melbourne and Sydney.

Announcing the shows back in September, he commented, “I got a fever for the flavour I tasted after the recent run of shows in Aotearoa. Let’s share some joy together and let’s sweat.”
