After revealing that he was let go from Foo Fighters and “no reason was given,” Josh Freese has shared a cheeky list of “ten possible reasons” he’s no longer a member of the band.
The superstar drummer, who’s worked with everyone from Nine Inch Nails to The Offspring, was dropped by the band as he neared the second anniversary of playing with them. Freese shared the list on Instagram yesterday (19 May), just three days after sharing the news of his removal from the band.
Sharing the “Top 10 possible reasons Freese got booted from the Foos,” some of the funniest reasons include “Once whistled My Hero for a week solid on tour” at #10, “Could only name one Fugazi song” at #9, “Metronome-like precision behind the kit deemed ‘soulless’” at #7, “Never even once tried growing a beard” at #5, and referring to his beloved fur babies, “The whole poodle thing was getting a bit much” at #1.
You can see the full list below.
In September 2022, Freese joined Foo Fighters on stage for their London and Los Angeles tribute concerts, which were held in memory of Taylor Hawkins, who tragically passed away in March 2022. The band took a break following Hawkins’ passing and announced that Freese had joined the band in May 2023.
Last week, Freese said he was “shocked and disappointed” to share that the band had dropped him.

He said the group told him they were going “in a different direction with their drummer” and “no reason was given.” At the end of the announcement, which he posted on social media, Freese encouraged his followers to stay tuned for the “Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters list.”
Foo Fighters toured Australia with Freese in November and December 2023. Reviewing their show at Melbourne’s AAMI Park in December 2023, The Music’s Mick Radojkovic said of Freese’s performance:
“His performance on the night not only highlights just how damn good he is at his craft, but he brings his own creative flair and shares the fun-loving grin that his predecessor did when jamming hard with the rest of the group. His t-shirt, ‘Not here to fuck spiders,’ was also a titillating treat.”
