Green DayLegendary pop punks Green Day have revealed their first new tune today since 2012's album trilogy ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tres!, a zesty new track called Bang Bang.
Hailing from their upcoming twelvth record Revolution Radio, due out on 7 October, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells Rolling Stone that the album is inspired by the chaos circling America at the moment, in the wake of a number of police brutality incidents, #blacklivesmatter protests and an election that "[preys] on fear and anger".
The first single Bang Bang is reportedly from the perspective of a mass shooter. "It's about the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media. There's this sort of rage happening, but it's also now being filmed and we all have ourselves under surveillance. To me, that is so twisted," Armstrong explains.
"To get into the brain of someone like that was freaky. It freaked me out. After I wrote it, all I wanted to do was get that out of my brain because it just freaked me out."
