Sydney's The Standard Bowl had its official opening last night meaning the city finally has a venue with a bowling alley.
After a month's renovations, the music venue has re-emerged with a completely new flow. Inspired by Brooklyn Bowl, four purpose-built three-quarter-size bowling alleys now line the back wall, where the windows have been thrown open to allow new light.
The stage has been moved to behind the bar (from the entrance's point of view) with pool tables and pinball machines installed on the upper level.
While country punks Little Bastard were playing the alleys provided surprisingly little distraction. The new crowd flow also means you won't need 250 people to make the venue look busy, either.
One of the main change from a music point of view is that The Standard Bowl is no longer ticketed, and according to its managers it never will be in this current format. Greta Mob and Wolf & Cub play the official public opening tonight, with a full list of shows here.
