There are some mighty fine bands who will be jostling for space on the record store new release shelves tomorrow as they fight for your hard earned record buying dollar. Which ones are worthy of a space in your collection? Well, here's what we reckon.

Hot Chip - In Our Heads

Hot Chip release their fifth record In Our Heads tomorrow through Domino/EMI, a record which sees them perfectly straddling the line between pop and dance. With sounds that range from Chicago House influenced bangers to more soothing, morning after come down kinda tunes. Read all about it here.

The Hives - Lex Hives

It has been a long, long time between drinks for Sweden's most dapper rock'n'rollers The Hives, so we're very excited to finally have their new album, Lex Hives, out in Australia tomorrow through Dew Process/Universal. We reckon it's a little closer to 2004's Tyrannosaurus Hives than their last album, 2007's The Black & White Album, but we're mainly just glad to have them back. Read the review here.

The Walkmen - Heaven

We've been streaming Heaven, the new record from The Walkmen, all week, and admire the way they can make their brand of indie rock sound effortless, even though there's clearly been a lot of meticulous work put into these songs. Read the reviews here. The record is out tomorrow though Pod/Inertia.

Jonathan Boulet - We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart

The second album from Sydney wunderkind Jonathan Boulet is out through Modular/Universal tomorrow; it's called We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart, but if you think long title = long record, you'd be wrong. It's a concise slab of indie rock with plenty of percussion and features all of the Boulet charms that we fell for in the first place. Read more here.

Lil' Band O' Gold - Plays Fats

Swamp pop supergroup Lil' Band O' Gold enlisted everyone from Robert Plant to Lucinda Williams to our own Jimmy Barnes and Tim Rogers for their tribute to Fats Domino, Play Fats. It's a stunning tribute to an undisputed legend and while the songs are obviously incredible, we're most impressed with the spirit in the recording. It's out tomorrow through Dust Devil/EMI. Xavier Rudd - Spirit Rudd

One of the kingpins of the Aussie roots scene right now, Xavier Rudd, has his seventh record Spirit Bird out tomorrow. We've had a bit of coverage about it on the site as he talks us through the tracks, we said it's “Instead of just utopian romanticism, this work is a solid commentary from Rudd about how the world should be”. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - Trouble

Also out on Universal (via Polydor) tomorrow is Trouble, the long-awaited debut from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and it's one to keep your eye on. We've praised the “range of styles from house-driven, melodic tracks to dirty beats and electronica” and made comparisons to James Blake and Erlend Øye (of The Whitest Boy Alive). Future Islands - On The Water

A bit further down the path of synth-pop, Baltimore's Future Islands release their On The Water record through Valve tomorrow. We've been rapturous in our appreciation for said record, calling the record “Gorgeous and personal” and saying “On The Water is an album of majesty and grace, the defining document for (Samuel T.) Herring's immense songwriting talents.” Read more here.
