Which band will be paid $50k to leave the country?
The nominations for the Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards [CDIMAs] Best Independent Label and $50,000 Global Music Grant have been announced this morning, finalising the nominations for 2013.
Future Classic, Liberation, Milk! Records, Sweat It Out and Two Bright Lakes have all be recognised in the independent labels category, while Big Scary, Jagwar Ma, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Rufus are the inaugural nominees in the Carlton Dry grant.
The grant is designed to help one of the acts nominated for a CDIMA establish themselves oversees and the nominee list has been chosen after band were asked to make a submission regarding what they'd use the grand for. More info on the grant here.
Label nominee Future Classic is home to the likes of Flume and Jagwar Ma, who topped the nominations with five each, while Liberation's Vance Joy scored a Best Single of EP nomination. Milk! Records is home to nominee Courtney Barnett and Sweat It Out, the label of the late DJ Ajax, is home to nominees RUFUS and Yolanda Be Cool. Melbourne collective Two Bright Lake's sole nominee this year is Collarbones.
