East Kimberley artist ICONYX released her debut album, Blak On Trak, today.
Ready to launch into the next phase of her career, ICONYX will perform in Perth tonight to celebrate the release.
The official release of Blak On Trak follows the singer’s cover of Archie Roach’s Mulyawongk, which paid tribute to an icon. With that track and the album, ICONYX has showcased her powerful voice, heritage, and perspective as an artist.
The third track on her album pays tribute to another icon, Gurrumul, whose family gave ICONYX special permission to sing his song, Baru. The gathering of the singer and Gurrumul’s family resulted in another track, Special Gift For You.
With her debut album, ICONYX blends hip-hop, R&B, world, and contemporary music while drawing from her Kukatja and Pintupi roots and upbringing in Whadjuk, Noongar Boodja. She combines traditional storytelling with modern music, all while honouring the complexity of her identity as a First Nations woman.
ICONYX said of her debut album, “I have loved music all my life. It’s a world I am completely comfortable in, and it gives me a way of expressing myself that everyone understands. I’m still learning and discovering so many things about life, and music is a way for me to talk about some of those experiences.”

She continued, “I feel like I’m just at the beginning, and at the same time, I feel a sense that I’ve completed something with Blak On Trak—something that is full of messages and melodies and sounds that I love.
“I’ve been working on it for a long time with some incredible people. For anyone who hears something in my songs that means something to them, I’ve done my job as a musician. To relate to people through music and give them something from my heart.”

Prior to the release of her debut album, ICONYX had already amassed three WAM Award nominations and won in the Act Belong Commit category in 2022 for her song, Dawn Of The Future. In Perth, she’s performed at festivals and NAIDOC events and opened for Emily Wurramara at the Perth Festival.
ICONYX will launch the album at the Bina Biddi Showcase at the Night Owl studio in Perth tonight. Tickets are sold out.
