Kylie Minogue almost recorded a hit song we only associate with Britney Spears, the Aussie singer and actress revealed in a new interview.

In a chat with Mike Adam on the podcast Audacy Check In, Minogue said that a 2003 single released by Spears was also sent to her at one point. “Yeah, there’s a little song called Toxic that was headed my way, and I was like, ‘Toxic? I don’t know if I want a song called Toxic,’” Minogue said in the podcast.

“As it’s turned out, it was meant to be a Britney Spears song. I can’t imagine it being anything else.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Minogue discussed the changes she’d seen for women in the music industry since she started out, explaining that she was “proof” of the industry’s changes.

“It’s very encouraging that I’m proof, I’m sat here. Now we bring up the age topic, but I think it’s at least with a positive spin on it,” she said.

“It wasn’t that many years ago that I felt I was in quite awkward positions where people would question me to my face in an interview, ‘When are you too old to be a woman in this business?’ Firstly — rude, but secondly — I don’t know. I guess I’ve always had women in the industry that I’ve looked up to; I didn’t really think about their age at the time.”

In terms of the women she’s looked up to, Minogue mentioned “obsessing” over Olivia Newton-John and feeling inspired by Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, Madonna, and Cyndi Lauper.

Kylie Minogue recently released the sister album to her latest album, Tension, with Tension II. The album arrived just weeks after she announced her highly anticipated Tension Tour of Australia.

Minogue will tour Australia in February and March 2025, playing in arenas across the country. She said of the tour, “I am beyond excited to announce the TENSION TOUR 2025.

“I can’t wait to share beautiful and wild moments with fans all over the world, celebrating the Tension era and more! It’s been an exhilarating ride so far, and now, get ready for your close-up because I will be calling Lights, Camera, Action… and there will be a whole lot of Padaming!”
