“I haven’t been through a cyclone before; I can check this off my bucket list for sure,” Ice Cube joked.

Ice Cube appeared on The Project last night (5 February), chatting with the panel from his Gold Coast hotel room ahead of his two special Australian headline shows.
In case you missed it: in January, the iconic American rapper and actor announced that he’d return to Australia this month. He’s set to perform at Sydney’s ICC Theatre on Friday, 7 March, and Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Sunday, 9 March.
The tour dates mark Ice Cube’s first trek Down Under since playing in Australian arenas in March 2023 with special guests Cypress Hill and A.B. Original.
Before the shows kick off this week, Ice Cube revealed that he was stuck in his Gold Coast hotel room, which looked out onto the beach, as emergency warnings began.
Tropical cyclone Alfred is predicted to be the worst cyclone to strike Queensland in 70 years. While it was initially estimated to hit the state today, it’s now expected to land between Coolangatta and Maroochydore tomorrow.
The category two cyclone is anticipated to bring wind gusts up to 155 km/h. Earlier this week, it was reported that the weather event is estimated to bring an estimated deluge of nine-metre waves and 700 millimetres of rain.

That forecast didn’t seem to spook Ice Cube all that much.
“I’m staying clear of it; it is pretty cool,” he shared. “I haven’t been through a cyclone before; I can check this off my bucket list for sure.”
He continued, “You know, I’m right here on the beach. The beach looks like it is going to be in the lobby in a minute.”

As Ice Cube mentioned in his interview, his Sydney and Melbourne shows will go ahead as planned. The Music has contacted tour promoters Live Nation for comment.
Ice Cube made Australian history in 2018, becoming the first rapper to headline the Sydney Opera House. His return in 2023 marked his first time playing in the country since that show, and it coincided with the 30th anniversary of his 1993 album, Lethal Injection.
