Jimmy and Jane Barnes will appear on 60 Minutes this Sunday, with the rock and roll superstar set to discuss the family’s journey over the last few weeks.

The episode promises to be heavy, with the husband and wife opening up about the terror surrounding Jimmy’s recent open-heart surgery. The pair admit their fears and doubts on screen and will likely open conversations amongst families across the country.

Jimmy Barnes underwent emergency open-heart surgery after an ongoing bacterial infection – for which he was hospitalised in the last week of November – spread to his heart.

In a short teaser posted to social media yesterday (15 February), Barnes admitted that he had a “horrible, morbid feeling” and “I said to Jane, ‘I don’t think I’m gonna make it this time’”. Jane quipped that Jimmy told her, “I think I’m gonna die”; Jimmy added, “I thought I was gone”.

A voiceover is layered above images and footage of Jimmy performing at November’s Mushroom 50 concert: “Jimmy Barnes, screaming up stages to screaming in pain”. Barnesy revealed that he came off stage on the night of that performance and collapsed. “I don’t know how I got through it,” he said. “Came off, I collapsed”.

You can watch the teaser for Jimmy’s episode of 60 Minutes below. The episode airs at 8:30 pm this Sunday, 18 February, on Channel 9.

On Easter Sunday (31 March), Barnes will return to the stage for the first time following his open-heart surgery. He’ll perform a unique set at Bluesfest Byron Bay with special guests; the set will commemorate the 30th anniversary of his album Flesh And Wood.

Discussing his return to the stage, Barnes said in a statement, “Every day, I’m getting stronger. Every day, I’m pushing myself a little bit further.

“I’m excited about getting back on stage, in front of the band and playing for you all. And what better way is there to kick it off than at the legendary Bluesfest Byron Bay with a really special celebration of Flesh And Wood.”

The whole family has been working hard with 60 Minutes Australia over the past couple of weeks, to fill you all in with our journey of late. Tune in this Sunday on Channel 9.
