Taylor Swift Makes Hot 50 Chart History

Australian airplay history is made today with Taylor Swift achieving a #1 debut

More Taylor Swift More Taylor Swift

Chart records have been smashed this week as Taylor Swift crashes in at #1 on the Radio Monitor Hot 50 with Anti-Hero. While the album is a guaranteed ARIA album #1 and is smashing records on streaming, this extra accolade is the ultimate display of how far into the mainstream Tay Tay has reached. In these days of research and testing, its rare for radio to take a leap of faith, even on a global superstar and this is the first time in radio chart history that a song has hit the top spot in its first week.

Swift breaks her own record with previous singles Look At What You Made Me Do and ME! both falling short with #2 debuts. Is this a turning point for radio where jumping on a song in its first week is back in fashion? Are we going to start delivering listeners some excitement around new music? We'd love to think so, but given that 50% of the songs in this week's chart are over six months old, you'll forgive us for leaving the champers on ice on that one for now.

There's also new peaks inside the top 10 with entries from Rosa Linn, Sam Smith & Kim Petras and LF Sound System while outside of Taylor Swift the only new faces from last week are Coldplay & BTS and A-Craze making re-appearances with their year-old bangers.

Amy Shark and Paramore keep their grip on the peaks of the Aussie and triple j charts while the Countrytown Hot 50 has a shakeup with Keith Urban grabbing the top spot with Brown Eyes Baby. Oliver Tree and Robin Shulz continue to set TikTok alight with their hit Miss You

Over on the National Indigenous Music Chart, The Kid Laroi's Thousand Miles has popped back into the top postition. Baker Boy and Bernard Fanning's Wish You Well pops up to #4 topping the non-Laroi entries for the week.
