Hilltop Hoods ProfileVeteran Aussie hip-hop act the Hilltop Hoods are distancing their single Cosby Sweater from its namesake in the wake of multiple women stepping forward with rape allegations against comedian Bill Cosby.
Taking to Facebook last night with a post ostensibly addressing a series of emails they had received questioning whether the song's title was anything to do with the phrase's definition on crowdsourced slang glossary Urban Dictionary (it isn't), the Hilltops consequently opened up about the resurgence of sexual assault allegations against the comedian, who has faced several such accusations since at least 2000, and their feelings about having written a song directly referencing the man.
"'Cosby Sweater' was inspired by … the iconic photo of Notorious B.I.G in the Coogi Sweater," they posted. "The songs [sic] about a piece of clothing. A ridiculously colourful piece of clothing.
"To be honest we regret name checking Bill Cosby. Like some of you we've only recently become aware of the allegations against him. If he's guilty of those allegations he can go jump in a fkn lake. A deep icy lake.
"We pulled the flip shirts that had a caricature of him on the inside a couple of weeks ago."
"Please, no more emails about the Urban Dictionary definition," they concluded.
