A new community event will be taking place in Gosford this October, with LIGHT UP being launched in honour of Audrey Griffin.
Set to take place on Saturday, October 4th as Gosford's Polytec Stadium, LIGHT UP is described "A community movement, to provide a safer community for all," with a strong focus on music, community, and change.
Griffin, who the event is in honour of, was a 19-year-olf woman who was murdered in March. Griffin had been reported missing in the early hours of Sunday, March 23rd, with her body being found in Erina Creek, near the Central Coast Highway later that day. A 53-year-old Sydney man accused of murdering Griffin later died in custody the following month.
“We stand for a future where everyone has the simple right to get home safely,” organsiers say of the forthcoming happening. “LIGHT UP is more than an event. It’s a community movement to reclaim our right to move freely, live fully, and shape a future where safety and respect are a reality for everyone.”
Following the main event, restaurants, live music venues, and the newly formed Gosford precinct will all "light up" in solidarity, creating a "connected, safe pathway through the city and showcasing the future of Gosford as a vibrant and welcoming destination."
The full line-up for the event has not been shared yet, with details set to arrive on Wednesday, August 27th. However, organisers have promised that it will feature some of “Australia’s biggest names and brightest emerging artists.”

All proceeds raised by the event will go towards the newly-founded Stand With Audrey, which aims to fund critical work in safety advocacy and education. "Together, we stand to honour lives and demand better," organisers note.
