More Paramore More Paramore

Paramore singer Hayley Williams isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in.

Last weekend, while the band were performing at Adjacent Fest in New Jersey alongside blink-182, Turnstile, Knocked Loose and more, she made a point of standing her ground in politics.

She said, “I’m very fucking comfortable talking politics, and if you vote for [Governor of Florida running for President in the 2024 US election] Ron DeSantis, you’re fucking dead to me. So, is that comfortable enough for anyone?,” per NME.

Two nights ago (30 May), Paramore were performing one of their favourite tracks from their new album, Figure 8, from February’s This Is Why, when the band stopped playing the song after the first chorus.

The Madison Square Garden house lights went on immediately and Williams pointed out two “aggressive” fans who were pushing and shoving their way to the barrier. TikTok users claim that they were disruptive “with everyone and that was the final straw for us all lol”.

“What is happening?” Williams asked as punters gestured to the two fans disrupting others. “Yes, I will embarrass both of you. Both of you need to find somewhere else to take care of that shit because that’s not happening here tonight, this is our house,” she added, kicking them out of the venue.

“How are you gonna disrupt one of our favourite songs to play at our show?” After the incident subsided and the crowd let the band know, everything was sorted, Paramore restarted the song. You can watch the footage below.

In January, Paramore were the cover band for Billboard. In the interview, Williams alleged that NOFX vocalist Fat Mike made sexualised comments about her during the Warped Tour days - when she was a teenager.

"Everyone’s just trying to remember better days, and I’m sitting there like, ‘They weren’t that much better,’" Williams said.

During the band's When We Were Young festival set, she addressed the audience and told them that the emo/pop-punk scene wasn't a safe space "if you were different, if you were a young woman, if you were a person of colour, if you were queer, and that’s really fucked up if you think about it because this was supposed to be the safe place, wasn’t it?"

Williams discussed the vindication and anger she felt with Billboard and continued, "I was really surprised that I had so much anger well up in me because I was like, ‘Wait a minute. They’re treating us like a prize now,’ but like, Fat Mike [of NOFX] used to tell people that I gave good rim jobs onstage when I was 19 years old.”

This Is Why is out now. You can listen to it here.
