The Melbourne alt-poppers will head down the right-hand side of the country this month and next

Halcyon Drive have just announced a taut string of east-coast tour dates off the back of their new single, Untethered.

The Melbourne-based alt-pop band released Untethered late last year, making it their second single lifted off their forthcoming album, due out in May.

The new single was recorded late last year with producer Steve Schram (San Cisco, Eagle & The Worm) in a makeshift studio in the Otways National Park, Victoria. The track is a well-layered cake of infectious hooks and looping instrumentation likened to the soundscape of indie-rock favourites, Foals, Mutemath and Bombay Bicycle Club.

Last year Halcyon Drive gained notoriety through triple j, with host Tim Shiel describing the band as having “so much going on but everything in its right place”, and a multitude of support via online blog coverage. The band also took to the road with Danish operatic alt-rockers Mew, and hit the stage at New Year’s Eve gig On The Hill alongside SAFIA, Kim Churchill and Boo Seeka.

To celebrate the release of Untethered, Halcyon Drive have just announced six dates traversing the East Coast opening in Melbourne’s Shebeen on 27 February, then down to Byron Bay’s Beach Hotel with free entry on 4 March, Milk Factory in Brisbane 5 March, Canberra’s Transit Bar 10 March, free entry for Waywards in Sydney 11 March, and rounding out in Wollongong at the Rad Bar 12 March.
